How to identify this edition
These points tell this edition apart from other printings and editions of The Talisman.
✓ Copyright page: “First published in 1984 by Viking Penguin Inc. / Published simultaneously in Canada”, then “A special limited edition of this book was published by Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Rhode Island.”, with no printing line (“Second Printing …”) at the foot of the page
✓ Price: $18.95 at the top of the front flap (unclipped); later printings kept the price, so it alone does not prove a first
✓ Binding: black paper boards, red cloth spine lettered in gilt and black, “VIKING” at the foot
