How to identify this edition
These points tell this edition apart from other printings and editions of Henderson The Rain King.
✓ Copyright page: “Published in 1959 by The Viking Press, Inc.”, no printing line; at the foot “Printed in the U.S.A. by the Colonial Press Inc.”
✓ Title page: dated “1959” above “The Viking Press / New York”
✓ Dust jacket: yellow, masks and skull painted by Bill Preston, “author of The Adventures of Augie March” on the front; back panel “Saul Bellow as a novelist” with three quotes (Warren, Trilling, Milwaukee Journal)
✓ Price: $4.50 at the top of the front flap (unclipped); later jackets kept it, so the price alone doesn't prove a first
✓ Binding: quarter beige cloth over orange cloth, top edge stained yellow
