How to identify this edition
These points tell this edition apart from other printings and editions of V..
✓ Copyright page: text set as an inverted triangle beginning “Copyright © 1961, 1963 by Thomas Pynchon”, with no impression line above it
✓ Title page: J. B. Lippincott Company, Philadelphia and New York
✓ Price: $5.95 on the front flap (unclipped); later printings kept it, so the price alone doesn't prove a first
✓ Dust jacket: large white “V.” over a blue-to-gold gradient, design by Ismar David; rear panel with the table of contents
✓ Binding: lavender cloth stamped in blind on the front and in silver on the spine, black top stain, ochre endpapers
